Blizzard Announces That Diablo Immortal will Launch on June 2 for Mobile and Open Beta on PC

Blizzard on Monday announced June 2 as the release date for its long-anticipated mobile game Diablo Immortal as well as revealing the game will also launch that day as Open Beta on PC. According to developers, the PC edition will come with cross-play and cross-progression, as well as controller and keyboard support. Immortal was originally announced for launch on iOS and Android in 2018, but it was decided that an even wider audience can be reached if the game was brought to PC as well. Plus, players would find a way to emulate it anyways

Game Director Wyatt Cheng calls this game the “biggest and most ambitious Diablo game to date”. Immortal’s timeline will take place between Diablo II and Diablo III, where players are going to meet up with Deckard Cain and attempt to locate the fragments of the Worldstone. Immortal was first announced 3 years ago during BlizzCon 2018 with few released details about the game, other than revealing it would be a massively multiplayer online action RPG (MMORPG) game where players can drop in and out of groups and play through “dynamic events” as they travel through Sanctuary. The 6 playable classes were also told to include the monk, wizard, crusader, demon hunter, necromancer and barbarian. These classes will be necessary to traverse 8 expansive zones with their own hellish styles, slaying monsters and gathering loot necessary to progress and change up skills. Along the way, live events will thrust players on the same server together to team up. There will also be an 8-player raid experience called the Helliquary.

The PC edition will still be worked on to ensure an “uncompromised AAA mobile experience when played on Windows PC”, therefore during the Open Beta period, Blizzard will continue to work on changes and fine-tune this version. Players can take their PC progress on the go, however, as logging into your mobile device will retain the same progress. Both PC and mobile will also have controller support, or PC players can use the W/A/S/D keys to move around for the first time in a Diablo game. According to Cheng, there will be more details on the improvements toward the PC edition closer to launch. Anxious fans can pre-register now for a chance to participate in future beta tests, earn in-game rewards as well as receive news and updates.
