Microsoft’s New Job Posting Hints at Future Acquisitions

After Microsoft’s record breaking purchase of Activision for $68.7 billion, they have posted job opening titled as the Manager of Gaming Strategy and Development. The job was published this weekend on Linkedin and has likely received hundreds of applicants already.

The post states that Microsoft is looking for a “talented and motivated analyst, with strong analytical and financial skills, to help lead highly visible and impactful projects in partnership with the Gaming Leadership Team.” The company continues by saying that “A typical candidate has experience in financial services (investment banking, private equity, etc.), management consulting, corporate finance, or the equivalent. A successful candidate can frame, research, and analyze complex datasets, identify unique insights, partner successfully with executives, collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse set of internal partners, and bring fresh perspective and enthusiasm.”

Listed in the responsibilities portion of the posting, Microsoft says that the applicant will be tasked with “Developing and evaluating the business case for content & technology acquisitions.” In addition to development of acquisitions, the Manager of Gaming Strategy and Development will also be in charge of “Creating business plans for new growth initiatives.” Each of these responsibilities listed in the job posting indicate that Microsoft will continue to expand with more acquisitions.

This job will likely be a sought after job since it might be working higher up within the company. The posting states that “This role will report to the Director of Gaming Strategy & Development and will require close partnership with senior leaders from Engineering, Finance, Business Development, Corporate Development, Legal, Marketing, and others.”

The job posting is likely needed to manage the already high amount of acquisitions in recent memory. Outside of the Activision purchase, Microsoft has also purchased companies such as ZeniMax Media. ZeniMax media was purchased for $7.5 billion in 2020 and is the parent company of Bethesda.

Microsoft is likely planning to add more acquisitions to their list in the coming year. They have seen other companies like Sony and Nintendo acquire companies in 2022, and Microsoft will likely continue expansion as well.
