It’s been a while since we last heard about the indie title Black Myth: Wukong. The title, which is being developed by Chinese indie developer Game Science, is a Souldborne-like title based off of the classical 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West. The studio has released a interesting video on YouTube, where at the end reveals that the game will officially be launching in Summer 2024. While the release time frame is exciting to hear, the video that reveals it is even more intriguing as it utilizes stop-motion animation and the Chinese New Year.

The view shoes a rabbit opening as package that houses Black Myth: Wukong in a physical edition. Hilarity ensues when the rabbit attempts to install the game on what looks like an older PC, and even running Windows XP of all things. The PC tells the rabbit that it cannot install the game due to low memory, and attempts to build a brand new PC, only for the game to tell the rabbit that it won’t be able to run until Summer 2024. We then move to a very small snippet of gameplay which is then revealed to be on a television and is being played by two younger rabbits.
The original rabbit from the beginning comes in via a wheelchair and watches in astonishment, where the camera zooms in on the calendar in the back, showing that it is Summer 2024. This is a very interesting, and hilarious way to announce the launch time frame, even if there was very little gameplay. As we already mentioned, the game’s mechanics, visuals, and overall presentation is very similar to the Soulsborne style, which will only make the title that much more appealable to that specific audience. If the difficulty is the same, than there’s a slight chance that the casual gaming audience might turn to something else. However, if there’s one thing that the video game community has shown, they’re always ready to try new things.
Black Myth: Wukong will officially launch in Summer 2024 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC.
