GoodbyeWorld Games, developers of the BAFTA winning game Before Your Eyes (2021) has created a new studio called ‘nice dream’. nice dream, according to their official website, is a Los Angeles-based independent game development studio founded by childhood friends. Their upcoming game, Goodnight Universe (2025) is detailed as such:
You’re Issac, a 6-month-old baby, developing mysterious psychic abilities. What you want most is to be loved by your family, but a secretive tech corporation wants you for their own. Master your new found psychic powers to help out around the house, and also bring down an evil tech corporation. Interact with a charming cast of fully-voiced characters to branch the story. Mend a disconnected family.
The game, despite having an official release date of 2025, has already garnered some attention: for example, it is an official selection at the 2024 Tribeca Festival. Goodnight Universe is slated to be published by Skybound Games. Skybound Games has published a variety of games such as Telltale’s The Walking Dead (2012) and WrestleQuest (2023). They manage the physical distribution of some indie games such as Cuphead (2017), Psychonauts 2 (2021), and partnering with iam8bit, Untitled Goose Game (2019) and Ori and the Will of the Wisps (2020).
Similar to the blinking mechanic with live face tracking used in Before Your Eyes, Goodnight Universe utilizes what the studio calls an “immersive face-tracking mode” that expands on camera-based technology used in Before Your Eyes.
