Beamdog’s Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition Gets a Steam Release Date

Last November, Beamdog announced that the next of its old-school RPG restoration projects would be Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, initially released by Bioware in 2002. After few more months of development and steady updates, Beamdog has now issued a formal release date of March 27, 2018 for the game on Steam. The announcement was made over a Beamdog livestream with CEO Trent Oster and Studio Director Phillip Daigle, which you can watch here.

In the stream, Beamdog also delivered updates on a few more aspects of the game, beginning with new in-progress textures for player characters, and for the Hall of Justice—a locale which will be familiar for any players of the original NWN. Pre-orders for NWN: EE have been available for the last couple of months, and combine with Beamdog’s Head Start program, which allows people with pre-orders early access to the game. The Head Start program is going to continue after launch as well, with Beamdog confirming that Head Start members will be getting individual game patches first, and the rest of players receiving patches rolled together into larger updates.

Beamdog confirmed that it is, currently, looking into obliging requests for new content added directly to the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, though the developer “doesn’t have a solution currently.” In the meantime, new content for the game (which will be coming regardless) will arrive in separate modules.

All in all, Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition appears to be gearing up nicely for its full late March launch. Beamdog encouraged Steam users to “stay tuned,” as new NWN content will be coming to the Steam workshop “soon.”

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
