Ayaneo recently revealed its latest upgrades for its next gaming handheld, shaping it up to being a strong contender against Valve’s Steam Deck and Asus’ ROG Ally. The Ayaneo 2S is set to be a major improvement from its previous handheld, the Ayaneo 2. According to The Verge, Ayaneo promised to address many failings its previous handheld had including graphical performance issues, short battery life, high processor temperature and issues with Ayaneo 2’s fingerprint sensor, screen and triggers. That said, the most interesting improvement Ayaneo addressed, was the newest chip to be implemented in the Ayaneo 2S, the AMD Ryzen 7000U chip.
According to Ayaneo, the Ryzen 7000U chip is a part of a series of unannounced chips from AMD, and is most likely to be similar to the AMD Z1 Extreme chip in the ROG Ally. These chips have been found in most of the Steam Deck’s competitors, and will offer according to Ayaneo, a “significant improvement over the 6800U, with particularly substantial performance gains in the low TDP 8-15W gold range.”
Ayaneo also announced the Geek 1S, a slimmed-down version of the Ayaneo 2. It’s said to come with the same Ryzen 7000 chip but with a lower-resolution 800p screen and other fewer components. Lastly, Ayaneo is providing upgrades or its existing devices, offering a free speaker upgrade for Ayaneo Airs and a free cooling module for Ayaneo 2 and Ayaneo Geek systems to alleviate its temperature issues.
Indiegogo will see the Ayaneo 2S and Geek 1s coming to its platform late this April, opening orders mid-May, and with shipping set for late June. The free cooling and speaker upgrades for the Ayaneo Air, Ayaneo 2, and Ayaneo Geek systems will also start mid-May.
