From Software has announced today that Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will launch later this summer on August 25th. The announcement also came with new gameplay trailer and teased some of the story. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon was officially announced in December during The Game Awards 2022. It’s a longtime coming for dedicated fans of the series as the last entry into the Armored Core franchise came out in 2013 with Armored Core: Verdict Day.
While FromSoftware is widely known for their modern classic souls games such as Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Sekiro and more, Armored Core was one of the developer’s first title they created going back to 1997. Armored Core has players step into the role of a mech robot aptly titled “Armored Cores.” The cores of the mechs could be customized for different upgrades such as combat abilities or speed boosts. Many of the later iterations of Armored Core titles expanded on the mech customization formula.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is set to be a reboot for the franchise, it’ll be set on an entirely new planet of Rubicon after a cosmic apocalypse. In a description from Bandai Namco of the game’s plot they write,
“A mysterious new substance called “Coral” was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, it caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System. Almost half a century later, Coral has resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themselves in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.”
The industrious landscapes featured in the new gameplay trailer of Rubicon 3 are sure to be a refresh for FromSoftware fans who haven’t been introduced to the vast lore and expansive world of Armored Core.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox X|S, Xbox One, and PC August 25th, 2023.
