Back on June 4th The Playstation Blog announced that a new DLC would be coming for Astro Bot in July. Team Asobi rolled out the brand new free expansion on July 10, titled Vicious Void Galaxy, adding five new challenge levels to the PlayStation 5 platformer. It’s a small but sharp injection of content that pushes the level count past 90 and gives returning players something fresh to dive into.
The expansion adds five new challenge stages, each built around a unique gameplay twist or movement mechanic. As with previous content drops, every stage includes a Bot companion to rescue, with a bonus unlockable character available after completing all five. The new levels are designed to ramp up difficulty and test player reflexes, while also supporting time attack leaderboards for players chasing faster clears. Speed-runners are already hard at work, finding the optimal routes and trying to be first for WC’s. Alongside the DLC, update 1.017 was released, which adds support for the new content, refines progression systems, and includes general performance improvements. The patch weighs in at just under 1 GB.
Astro Bot has always been about exploration and mastery. Beyond just reaching the end of a level, players often find hidden collectibles and secret paths that encourage replaying stages with a more careful eye. The new DLC continues this tradition, challenging players not just to survive but to perfect their runs, adding layers of depth for those who want to push their skills further. This balance of accessibility and challenge is part of why the community remains engaged months after launch.
Since launch in September 2024, Astro Bot has grown steadily thanks to a consistent stream of free updates. The new content fits Team Asobi’s approach: tight, polished, and focused. It doesn’t overhaul the experience, but it adds enough challenge and charm that people will be excited to pick the game back up.
