Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Coming To Switch In Japan With A Cloud Version

The highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Odyssey isn’t just coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One. While there is no word that this will happen elsewhere, during Nintendo’s Japanese Direct, there was a trailer for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey announcing that it will be available to play when it releases on October 5. The game will be playable using the cloud. This isn’t the only time that this has happened, as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was also released on the Switch with a cloud version.

Similar to Resident Evil 7, Assassins Creed Odyssey will utilize a pass that runs for ¥8400 ($75/£57/€64), the same price as the PS4 version in Japan. This allows access to the game for up to two years. It’s also possible to play the game by paying a daily rate which costs ¥730 ($6.50/£5/€5.60).

It’s interesting to see that Nintendo is giving another game a streaming option. It seems that Resident Evil 7‘s cloud version sold well enough to give this unorthodox method another shot. Another thing that makes this announcement unique is how vastly different Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is to Resident Evil 7. Odyssey is an expansive, open-world game while Biohazard is more linear. If Nintendo continues developing and focusing on cloud versions, there may be no limits to what is available to play. There will be certain graphical options that may need to be adjusted but if the game plays the same, it shouldn’t matter.

Recently, Ubisoft revealed its post-launch plans for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. These include two story arcs,  Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis, free missions, and daily and weekly contracts. Furthermore, if you own the season pass, you will be able to get Assassins Creed III Remastered and Assassins Creed III: Liberation Remastered as well. The season pass is available if you get certain editions of the game or standalone for $40.
