Assassin’s Creed Franchise Sold 73 Million Units

Kotaku columnist Superannuation is at it again, letting us know the data on the recent data from Ubisoft. Currently at the top of Ubisoft’s best selling franchise is the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which is 70,000 millions units sold to date. After Assassin’s Creed, the Just Dance franchise comes at number two with 48 million units sold.

With the recent data it shows that Ubisoft is a big game developer with about 9,200 employees, which 7,800 work in production. With EA’s last update, the company had 9,370 employees, but not certain about them leading the numbers in employees compared to Ubisoft, due to major layoffs last year.

Ubisoft is spread out around the World with 35 Studios, which allows the projects to be worked on 24/7. That allows for the studio to work simultaneously on games like Assassin’s Creed in order to bring a game every year for that franchise. Also allows to work on other projects like Far Cry 4, Child of Light, Watch Dogs, and a new Rainbow Six title.

Ubisoft started out with a total of 3,400+ employees back in 2006 and grew up to 5,700+ in 2009.  The numbers slowed down from 2010-2012 with 6900+ by the end of 2012. The total headcount jumped to 8200+ in 2012 and now settle at 9200+. There are some plans that were also announced that Ubisoft plans to add 500 more jobs for the Quebec Studio for the arrival of Xbox One and PlayStation 4. With an additional plan of hiring 3,500 people for the studio, which the Government of Quebec has pledged 9.9 million CAD.
