Splinter Cell Comic Bridges Gap Between Convictions and Blacklist

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Echoes was a comic book packaged with collector’s editions of last year’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and served to bridge the storytelling gap between Blacklist and its predecessor, Splinter Cell: Convictions. The comic will soon be more widely available as a four-issue series, as announced by Dynamite Entertainment.

Warning: Ending spoilers for Splinter Cell: Convictions ahead!

2010’s Splinter Cell: Convictions depicted a very bitter Sam Fisher on a vengeful journey to find out who killed his daughter during the events of Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Towards the end of the game, he discovers that not only was his daughter’s death faked, but his former employer, Third Echelon, has gone rogue with nefarious designs on the presidency. The game concludes with Sam and Anna Grimsdottir eliminating the threat and saving the president’s life.

End Spoilers

Splinter Cell Echoes will show what happens after those events, right up to the point where Blacklist begins. It will show Sam Fisher picking up the pieces of his life and putting them back together, now that his daughter has returned to him and he is no longer a government fugitive. His rest is disturbed, however, when the shenanigans of a terrorist organization known as KROWE pulls him back into action.

The comic was written by Nathan Edmonson, who has written for both Marvel and Image Comics. Some of his credits include The Punisher and Black Widow. Artwork was done by Marc Lamin, who worked on Exile On The Planet of the Apes.

The original version of the comic ran 88 pages long, but this new four-issue version will contain additional content that was initially left out. It is unknown if the additional content will explain how Sam Fisher becomes at least ten years younger in Blacklist.

The first issue of Splinter Cell Echoes will be available on July 2, 2014 both digitally and in stores.
