As Of December 20, Cyberpunk 2077 Has Sold Over 13 Million Copies

Today, CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 13 million copies as of December 20. This is after everything that has transpired since the launch of the game on December 10. With the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game not up to par as the PC and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, PlayStation took the game off of its store and offered refunds for the game. Xbox and Best Buy also offered refunds. CD Projekt Red said that the 13 million copies sold factors in the refunds that have occurred for the game. CD Projekt Red announced a deadline of December 21 for those who wish to get refunded by CD Projekt Red themselves. Xbox and Best Buy also used the same date to accept refunds for those who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 on their respective platforms.

The management board of CD Projekt Red said that “based on reports obtained from digital distribution platforms and data collected from physical distributors, it estimates that by 20 December inclusive gamers have purchased over 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077. This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales across all hardware platforms (factoring in returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-motor as well as digital storefronts), i.e. the “sell-through” figure, less all refund requests e-mailed directly to the Company by the publication date of this report in the framework of the “Help Me Refund” campaign.”

The CD Projekt Red management board also noted that they “decided to disclose the above information in the form of a current report due to its potential impact on investment-related decisions.” Nothing official has been announced as of yet, but CD Projekt Red is most likely referring to the potential class-action lawsuit that certain investors are looking into after the poor launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The investors said that CD Projekt Red committed the offense of misrepresentation in order to obtain financial benefits.

Regardless, CD Projekt Red has a lot on its plate trying to fix Cyberpunk 2077 and get rid of the many glitches and bugs that have caused many to get refunds. Afterward, they will be working on DLC and a multiplayer component to the game. Whether or not anything changes between now and then after the many issues that the CD Projekt Red has dealt with, remains to be seen.
