Apex Legends New Update Will Add Permanent Duo Mode and Map Rotation

Most Battle Royale games such as Fortnite and PUBG allow players to chose between solos, duos or team play.  This is convenient for players because it allows for balanced play and teamwork no matter how many of your friends are online at a given time.  Apex Legends went a different route from the very beginning, and outside of a few duos and solos limited time events players have been locked into a trios mode.  The legends each have their own unique play styles and abilities, so it makes sense that the game is focused around team play.

Regardless, fans have been clamoring for solo and duo modes since the game came out, and Respawn has finally decided to include duos as a permanent option.  The change comes as a part of an update releasing on April 7th which also sees the return of Apex‘s original map: King’s Canyon.

World’s End replaced King’s Canyon as the game’s only map in Season 3 in October.  World’s End was a welcome change, but competitive matches are currently held only in King’s Canyon.  The new update will re-introduce King’s Canyon, and World’s End will remain playable.  Respawn hasn’t made it clear if players will be able to select a map or if they will randomly be dropped in one or the other.

The update also adds an exclusive event called The Old Ways, which focuses on the Bloodhound legend.  The event will run from April 7th to April 21st, and is set to include a town takeover, an Exclusive Event Prize Track, and new and old limited time cosmetics available in the Direct Purchase Shop.

Players will be excited to return to King’s Canyon and to develop new strategies for the duos mode, and this update helps to solidify where Apex stands among other BR games.  Respawn seems to be heading towards the PUBG model of allowing players to play several maps at the same time, as opposed to the Fortnite model of a single, constantly changing map.
