Apex Legends Mobile is Confirmed for Global Launch this May

Respawn Entertainment announced during an Apex Legends developer panel that they plan to fully launch Apex Legends Mobile worldwide this May for Android and iOS devices, according to a report by Video Game Chronicle. During the panel, mobile design director Jordan Patz revealed the update to the optimized for mobile battle royale game.

“I’m excited to announce, finally, that Apex Legends Mobile will be coming to all players worldwide in May,” he said. Previously in March, Respawn hoped for the game to launch this summer following a soft launch in 10 countries. Apex Legends Mobile also became available for pre-registration to let fans know when it will come to their region, but now the free-to-play mobile adaptation will arrive sooner than later. The exact release date in May was not clarified, but will likely be revealed with coming news.

Apex Legends Mobile is being developed by a dedicated expert mobile game development team at Respawn in collaboration with Tencent’s Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, who are also behind PUBG Mobile. In the coming weeks, Respawn will reveal more information on the new stuff coming to Apex Legends Mobile. So far, it is known that the game is sticking true to its console/PC predecessor with modes such as Battle Royale, Team Deathmatch, Mini Battle Royale and 3v3 Arenas.

“We do have mobile exclusive game modes, we do have new ways to play with your friends and new ways to invest in and explore the world of Apex Legends,”

Patz added. He also admitted that wrapping up the game’s soft launch allowed the team to “learn a lot about the game in a short period”. In April of 2021, publisher Electronic Arts had initially announced that Apex Legends Mobile was in development. This title will not be compatible for crossplay, streamlined specifically for mobile devices with specially designed controls and thoughtful optimizations. “It’s a new version of Apex Legends, but it’s true to the original,” said Chad Grenier, Game Director on Apex Legends in a Respawn newsletter. The mobile version will take the high-paced action of the base game and add its own unique twist with slight tweaks to make the most of touchscreen controls. It has its own lineup of Legends with fan favorites like Wraith, Octane, Bloodhound and Pathfinder. While bringing Apex Legends Mobile to a new audience, they will take familiar players back to the classic World’s Edge and Kings Canyon maps with twists along the way.

Apex Legends Mobile will be free-to-play (applicable platform account and platform subscription may be required) with its own Battle Passes, collectible cosmetics and unlockables unique to the mobile version unlike those found on PC and console.
