Following a slightly buggy release of their newest event, battle royale giant Apex Legends experienced some problems over the weekend. On July 4, many players reported a hack that prevented queuing into games, replacing server playlists with a message directed at Respawn, the parent developer of both Apex Legends and the Titanfall series. Diehard Titanfall fans, it seems, were unhappy with the difference between Respawn’s treatment of Apex Legends, which is given a spotlight, and Titanfall, which has been overwhelmed with hackers. Players who were able to queue into games were treated to an “important message” upon game completion, which directed to the website savetitanfall.com. This website has been up for a while, and discusses the neglect of Titanfall and how it is majorly unplayable due to hackers that crash servers. The people who attacked Apex Legends essentially traded an eye for an eye, a hack for a hack, in their attempts to bring attention to Titanfall.
Respawn acknowledged the hacks on Twitter and kept players updated throughout the fixing of the situation. They have said that they will continue to work on the issues that effect the servers of both Apex Legends and Titanfall. Overall, they mostly resolved the issues caused by hacking in Apex Legends in about 5 hours, as shown on their Twitter.
At this point, Apex is playable, but Respawn has not released any kind of official statement about how the underlying issues for either game (Apex Legends having its own problems regarding servers) will be fixed. It can be assumed that at some point, an effort will be put into reinstating the Titanfall servers, but just as was the case in the fixes that happened in the past, actual results are uncertain. It should, however, no longer affect Apex Legends players.
