AMD CEO Comments On Partnership With Sony For The PS5

Sony has yet to officially announce their next generation console, unofficially dubbed the PlayStation 5, but we do know that it is currently in development. Recently, lead developers within the company have revealed details about the system including new features and changes that they hope to implement that weren’t touched upon during the transition from the last generation to the current one.

One of the new features revealed to be introduced to the PS5 is an AMD chip which will be based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line. And now, AMD CEO Lisa Su openly discussed their company’s partnership with Sony in working on the next generation system.

Speaking to CNBC she stated, “We are so honored and proud to be part of Sony’s next-generation PlayStation. This has been a really long-term partnership with them. We love gaming. We think gaming is a really good secular growth market. What we have done with Sony is really architect something for their application, for their special sauce. It’s a great honor for us. We’re really excited about what the next generation PlayStation will do. And happy to be a part of it.”

In regards to this new microchip, Su stated that it will help to power the PlayStations 5’s “special sauce.” As to what this exactly entails is a big mystery at the moment, but it does give the impression that this chip will be an integral part of one of the features that will set the PlayStation 5 apart from this generation.

What we know so far about what AMD’s chip is that It will contain eight cores of their 7 nanometer Zen 2 microchip and it will be able to support 3D audio. As for now, it seems like we won’t get an official reveal for quite sometime as Sony is being pretty silent this year about what they’ve been up to, and according to recent financial reports the PS5 isn’t slated to release anytime soon.
