Indie developer Vagabond Dog’s upcoming RPG Always Sometimes Monsters is coming to Steam and Humble on May 21st, publisher Devolver Digital has announced. Always Sometimes Monsters tells the story about the journeys and lengths that a person would go just to get that happiness and love. The game will be going for £6.99 / $9.99, but pre-orders on Steam will be 10 per cent off at £6.29 / $8.99.
Always Sometimes Monsters warns players that the content will be dealing with racism, sexism, homophobia, mental health, sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, drug abuse, and suicide. With that in mind the player will be able to create any type of race, gender, and sexual orientation for the character that they play, which that will play a role into the gameplay on how life events happen. The game is narrative-driven, where you find out that the love of your life is about to marry another, which brings difficult life choices.
You walk into your characters real life story of not only finding out their love of their life about to marry another person, but also you end up out of money and out of luck with a broken heart and about to collapse. With all these things happening to your character, they have another thing coming, the landlord has taken back their keys, and no longer are able to finish that manuscript you started. You have no choice but to take what life is throwing at you, and now you are on a mission to win back the love of your life. Leading up to it and once you get that love of your life back, is up to you to decide how it goes.
“Always Sometimes Monsters is designed to reflect parts of yourself as you play and possibly give you a better understanding of who you are,” developer Justin Amirkhani said in a press statement. “What makes it interesting is not learning whether or not you’re a monster, but reflecting on how you can change.”
