Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive announced today the delay of Alone in the Dark from its prior release date of October 25th. The updated release is now scheduled for January 16th, 2024.
The delay comes ahead of what’s a busy October for a slew of game releases, with a few notable ones expected to take the spotlight in sales. Publisher THQ Nordic provides a pretty blunt statement through a press release today as to why they’ve delayed the game for just over 2 months.
“Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man. We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16th, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.”
Referencing Alan Wake 2, Cities Skylines 2, and PlayStation 5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, THQ Nordic becomes another publisher to delay a game merely for the chaotic month ahead. Developer Remedy Entertainment had previously moved the release of Alan Wake 2 up 10 days purely to avoid competition with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. While next month remains packed with other titles such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ghostrunner 2, Lords of the Fallen, and many more.
Alone in the Dark which acts as reboot of the original 1992 title, has players take on the role of Edward Carnby played by David Harbour, or Emily Hartwood played by Jodie Comer. Set in the deep south of the 1920s, the psychological horror will have players solve puzzles, fight monsters and uncover mysteries surrounding a gothic manor.
Alone in the Dark will be released on January 16th, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
