Alan Wake 2 Gameplay Revealed During Gamescom Opening Night

Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, revealed new gameplay, in-game cinematics, and live-action footage for the upcoming survival horror game Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment.

The trailer showed the first gameplay footage of protagonist– and in-game famous novelist– Alan Wake. Previous gameplay footage which premiered at the Summer Games Fest only showed gameplay of another playable character, Saga Anderson. In the trailer, Alan Wake is exploring a strange place only known to be The Dark Place.

Remedy is going all in on making sure Alan Wake 2 is one trippy experience, as the trailer footage featured a slew of mixed sequence shots both cinematic, in-game, and live-footage capture. All combined, it sets up for what’ll be a delightfully mind bending experience.

“Trapped in a nightmare, Alan Wake has been trying to write his way out. But what happens when something else escapes? Play as the writer, Alan Wake, and the FBI agent, Saga Anderson. Explore two beautiful and terrifying realities in Remedy Entertainment’s first survival horror game, and rewrite Alan Wake’s reality to escape the surreal cityscape of the Dark Place. Here there’s only victims and monsters. And monsters wear many faces.”

Alan Wake will again use his flashlight to ward off enemies, including new abilities such as Rewrite Reality. It’s unclear how this ability will work, but it’ll no doubt contribute to the game’s twisted gameplay.

Alan Wake 2 made more headlining news last week when Remedy Entertainment announced they pushed the release date up 10 days due to the overwhelming amount of October game releases.

Alan Wake 2 will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC October 27th.
