People have been seeing this coming for a while. While Battle Operation 2 is a long-lived game for a gacha despite its fair share of rocky controversies, including a less than stellar Steam release, but it has been starting to show its age in both graphic fidelity and gameplay design, not to mention they were, amazingly, starting to run out of Universal Century mobile suits and had to dip into other Gundam universes for guest appearances.
From what we see in the Battle Operation 3 trailer we’ve got some of the old mainstays from Battle Operation 2, a lot of classic early UC suits like the Gelgoog, Guncannon, Ground Type GM, Gundam Ground Type, and of course the grandpa RX-78 Gundam himself. Interestingly, they open with dynamic footage of a foot soldier dashing through a battlefield while titanic mobile suits clash around him. Whether or not this is indicative of Battle Operation 3 expanding on Battle Operation 2’s rather barebones pilot gameplay is up in the air.
One thing players will notice is the BuCUE dog-shaped mobile suit right at the end, a suit from Gundam SEED, rather than any of the Universal Century products, meaning Battle Operation 3 is going to just start off being a big crossover game instead of growing into it like 2, so expect to see Leos and Flags eventually.
We see that Battle Operation 2 will, obviously, make the game look better than its decade old predecessor:

As well as updating the gameplay, giving every suit a special ability, rather than like the previous game where only a few select suits had a special activated mode:
@PlayStation @Steam New SP Skill feature for all mobile suits! For example…
💠 Blue Destiny Unit 1: Temporarily increases performance, some ranged weapons become usable during high-speed movement
🔫 Guncannon: Weapon lock disabled and the 240mm Cannon [Auto] can be used, unleashing powerful blasts https://t.co/BAv3Qf8b3t— MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM BATTLE OPERATION SERIES (@GBO_EN) October 28, 2026
There will be growing pains, pilots who have been collecting mobile suits for almost a decade now (like myself) will have to sadly say goodbye to their stocked hangers and pray to successfully roll for the Kampfers and the Jegans and the Doven Wolves, but this is a release that has been a long time coming. As mentioned above, Battle Operation 2 didn’t exactly have the smoothest transition from Playstation 4 to Steam, and in fact sits at a Mostly Negative review score on Steam right at this very moment, but with Battle Operation 3 releasing on Steam as well as consoles surely it’ll have a better PC performance this time. And hey, maybe space battles will be fun this time around?
