Ace Attorney Game in Development for the Switch

The Ace Attorney series has encapsulated many fans by putting the player in the shoes of Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, and many more. The mystery visual novel-esque game franchise has been a hit since 2001, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the next release since 2016’s 3DS release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice. Earlier this week, Jiji, the Japanese new website, revealed part of an interview with Capcom COO, Haruhiro Tsujiro, and it shows that there is currently an Ace Attorney game in the works for the Nintendo Switch.

A user on the popular Ace Attorney forums, Court Record-Forums, translated part of the interview, to which the article read, “Capcom COO Tsujiro, in an interview with Jiji on the 10th, revealed that the company is already developing new titles to release on the Nintendo Switch in fiscal year 2018, such as “Ace Attorney” and other series that are popular inside and outside Japan.”

Some speculate on the forums that this could be a Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney remake, or it could also be a new entry in the series altogether. Users on Reddit also hope for the North American localization of the game whether or not it turns out to be a spin-off tittle or not.

Regardless, many are excited to see that Capcom are making greater strides into the Switch market, with other Capcom IPs being developed alongside Ace Attorney. Popular games, such as Okami, Resident Evil/Biohazard 7, and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, have not made their way onto the Switch just yet. This could very well be the next step that Capcom is taking to port previously released games onto the Switch and begin developing new ones for the Nintendo console.

The Ace Attorney title is expected to be released in Japan sometime within the 2018 fiscal year. A projection for the North American localization of title has not been set at this time.
