A New Darksiders Game May Be Revealed at E3 2019

In anticipation of this year’s E3, earlier this week a rumor circulated that THQ Nordic would be revealing the return of their most popular franchises, including Red Faction and Destroy All Humans. THQ Nordic announced some E3 plans recently, detailing plans to present two unannounced games, one of which is “galactically beloved game,” and the other a “new vision of a beloved game.” It seems like the first game is potentially a Destroy All Humans title, while the “new vision” has been confirmed to be a reboot of the hack and slash Darksiders franchise.

According to ComicBook.com, a special Darksiders panel is scheduled for E3 this year as discovered on the E3 Coliseum website. The panel complements the reveal of a brand-new Darksiders game that will aim to reboot the series and take it in a brand new direction. The Darksiders games have the player take control of different members of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, most recently Fury, and showcase a version of Earth where man is destroyed and angels and demons compete for supremacy.

The panel will be “discussion about the inception of the Darksiders universe and where it’s headed next,” according to the E3 Coliseum website. “This panel will coincide with the E3 2019 unveil of a brand new Darksiders game that takes the franchise in a fresh direction. This is a panel discussion about the art and business of creating and maintaining an action adventure franchise rich in-game and corporate lore.”

The website doesn’t mention the title of the game, or confirm that the title is Darksiders: Genesis as rumors suggested. The Darksiders: Genesis title supposedly leaked during a somewhat ill-advised AMA on 8chan, a notorious troll site, back in February of this year.

The latest entry in the series Darksiders III just released recently at the end of 2018 to mixed reactions, so it seems THQ feels the time is right to revitalize the franchise with this “new vision” and make the most of the property going forward. The rumored subtitle Genesis seems especially fitting for a reboot, considering the biblical-slash-fantasy premise of the franchise, and it will be exciting to see what sort of storyline the game explores.

A remastered version of the original game called Darksiders: Warmastered Edition just became available for the Nintendo Switch in April this year, joining versions for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
