Backyard Baseball ’97, the very first game in the Backyard Sports series, was developed by Humongous Entertainment and released for PC and Mac in 1997. It became a cult favorite among ’90s kids shortly after its launch, likely due to its charming timeless graphics, kid-safe comedy, and entertaining baseball gameplay. In the game, players are tasked with gathering a team of neighborhood kids with which to compete in backyard-style baseball games. All of the many possible players are unique characters with quirky personalities and special abilities. Backyard Baseball ’97 includes both season and single-game modes, which feature player stats, home run derbies, and fictional teams.
The game largely fell off the map as new games entered the market in the 2000s, but Backyard Baseball ’97 has changed that by releasing today on both iOS and Android devices. Now the mobile version of the game, developed by Mega Cat Studios and published by Playground Productions, can be enjoyed on the go by nostalgic ’90s kids and new players alike.
Playground Productions announced the launch of Backyard Baseball ’97 Mobile today via a post on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The post includes an ad that declares Pablo Sancho has finally made his way to mobile devices.
