It’s the end of an era for 1047 Games and their baby project that has spanned several years now. The studio has officially announced that their free-to-play Halo/Portal stylized shooter Splitgate will “end feature development” with the upcoming release of their final battle pass. In short, this means that the studio will end the main production of the title and put it into maintenance mode, effectively ceasing any future content. 1047 Games also revealed that they are doing this in order to focus on a new project, one that will take place in the same universe as Splitgate.
As you can see in the tweet above, 1047 Games will essentially be moving on from Splitgate and getting ready on their next endeavor. It’s important to reiterate that the game is not going to be shut down in any capacity. The term maintenance mode refers to the developer ending new content development for the associated title and will instead be moved to a quality of life-based watch where a small team will update the game/balance the game only when necessary. Splitgate will remain playable for the foreseeable future, especially after the studio secured roughly $100 million in funding most of which went towards the title.
As for their next project, we already know that it’s going to take place within the Splitgate universe, but 1047 Games also states that it will “present revolutionary, not evolutionary, changes to our game.” They also mention that the game will be a shooter, still utilize the portal mechanic, will be created using Unreal Engine 5, and will be a free-to-play title. 1047 Games also states that the final battle pass for Splitgate will also be free to own, including all of the contents that come with it, a bit of a farewell gift. 1047 Games didn’t mention anything else in regards to the new project, and it’s more than likely going to be a long time before we hear any more about it.
