After their announcement trailer for Deadhaus Sonata several days ago, Apocalypse Studios has already released a video showing off an early gameplay walkthrough of the game. The developer’s video essentially guides potential players through the basics and environment, which will focus heavily on an action-RPG style. With magic and medieval style weaponry, this creative and surprisingly free-to-play title will incorporate multiplayer online. From the gameplay and announcement videos shown below, the combat also appears like it has elements of a hack-and-slasher with an ability bar at the bottom of the screen that looks similar to the smaller ability bar in The Elder Scrolls: Online compared to the bars in games like World of Warcraft.
For launching as a free-to-play game, Apocalypse game has put a lot of time and effort into the lore and mechanics of Deadhaus Sonata. The premise of the world is that the living must fight the undead in cooperative multiplayer…and you are the a part of the undead. Destructive abilities and weapons will allow players to consume enemies as they explore the world of Nogosaua. The creators describe the camera angle as similar to a Bloodborne or Warframe and the actual mechanics are compared to Path of Exile and Diablo. Undead players will have an initial choice between different classes, six of which have been revealed: vampire, banshee, wraith, lich, revenant, and ghoul.
Apocalypse has always been very upfront in how they approach the development in their games: they will make what they want to. They typically focus on free-to-play titles with a “games as a service” approach. Deadhaus Sonata’s site states that the game is “leading on the PC and will support all major platforms.” There is also a support page provided by the developers to potential players that wish to contribute to the game’s success, and will receive the “Founder’s Pack.”
