With high anticipation, Code Vein was set to be one of the biggest titles to be released in late September. That was the case, until Bandai Namco announced earlier today that they have decided to push back the release of the game until sometime in 2019. This also comes right after the new character reveal trailer, which was less than one week ago.

The game was also supposed to have a demo at the upcoming event, Gamescom 2018, but Bandai Namco has decided to pull it from there as well. According to the company, they delayed Code Vein to “further refine its gameplay in an effort to exceed the expectations fans already have of the title.” This decision comes not long after E3 2018, where Code Vein was showcased and had a demo at the Bandai Namco booth, and in addition, a playable demo at Anime Expo 2018, which just concluded this past weekend. This may have been a major factor into delaying the game as the company also stated “based on the feed-back we have received over the last few months, we have decided to push back the release into 2019.”
Pushing back a title is nothing new, especially when it comes to a big AAA game that has a tremendous amount of hype around it. If anything, delaying a video game only helps the developer put the finishing touch on their project before releasing it to the public. However, the strange aspect about this particular delay is that Code Vein no longer has a release date. Now with a tentative release for 2019, it’s anyone’s guess when it will actually come out, also with the delay, it will no longer be competing with huge titles that also release in September this year, such as Spider-Man, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Valkyria Chronicles 4.
Hopefully Bandai Namco can iron out the kinks sooner than later, as the game already has a large fan following. From what we’ve seen so far, the wait will be worth it. To reiterate, Code Vein is now slated to be released in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
