Following Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, many have been wondering what’s next for Insomniac Games. They officially announced Marvel’s Wolverine back in 2021 but the major leaks of the game back in 2023 may have altered the timeline of the game’s release. The leak also revealed a release slate for the developer which included the rumored Vemon spin-off and the Spider-Man multiplayer game which was canceled. Insomniac Games, other than talking about the leaks, has been radio silent since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release, however, a new report may have revealed what’s coming over the next few years.
MP1st is reporting that “Wolverine is still on track for a 2026 release, and Venom has been in active development.” In addition to the news that Venom is still in active development, MP1st also revealed some possible story details but these aren’t concrete and should be taken with a grain of salt.
According to the source, Eddie Brock will be taking on the protagonist role. Brock will also be visually closer to his comic book counterpart instead of the Tom Hardy version of the character that he played in the Venom films. The game will also see the return of Cletus Kasady who will be the game’s main villain following his side story in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Anti-Venom is also expected to return but it will not be the version controlled by Peter Parker as in the second game. Anti-Venom will reportedly be the more monstrous-looking version from the comics that Eddie Brock eventually uses.
There are also some clues that Miguel O-Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, is coming to Insomniac’s Spider-Man/Marvel universe. It’s unclear if that’ll be in the Venom spin-off or more likely, in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. It may be a continuation of the Spider-Verse mission that teased bringing the movies and the games together or something new for the third game.
The most recent data from the leaks suggests that the Venom spin-off will launch in 2027. Recently, there are have reports that a State of Play will take place sometime this month with news from Insomniac being a big part of that, suggesting that it’ll focus on what’s next for PlayStation Studios.
Nothing official has been confirmed or announced yet, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s coming next from Insomniac and PlayStation.
