Ever since Monster Hunter World back in 2018, the franchise has been a huge hit. Now, the latest title in the franchise, Monster Hunter World, has released and World and Rise, the game is already a big hit, smashing through several Steam records on PC. Monster Hunter Wilds saw an all-time peak of 987,482 just five hours after launch. As of early today, the game has reached over 1.2 million concurrent players. This puts Wilds on the all-time concurrent player count at 8th in Steam history.

Monster Hunter World saw an all-time peak player count of 334, 684. The next game, Monster Hunter Rise, which released back in 2022, reached a peak of 231,360. Monster Hunter Wilds’ all-time peak puts it up against the all-time peaks of Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel Rivals, and Apex Legends.
Monster Hunter Wilds is on the cusp of becoming the 8th game ever to hit the 1mil mark on Steam!

It is currently just behind Cyberpunk 2077, which has an all-time peak of 1.054 million, 67,000 ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds.
Despite the big launch and overwhelmingly positive reviews, there has been a mixed reaction for the PC version, with many voicing their complaints on social media.
“I understand that new games are becoming more demanding and people are expected to upgrade, but this is absurd,” wrote reviewer Koda, who has four hours of gameplay on record. “I’m aware this isn’t the first instance of new games having poor performance on launch, because the same thing happened with World, but it feels inexcusable at this point. I am by no means saying the game is bad, but in its current state, you should probably consider waiting for a more stable release.”
ThatTwistedMetalGuy, who also has four hours on record, wrote: “This game is so horribly optimized. The last launch I had an experience like this with was Cyberpunk. Frame gen will give you your FPS with HORRID ghosting. Upscaling hammers CPU while barely touching GPU.
“1080p offers 10-20FPS increase over 4k without frame gen. Game looks like an oil painting and just flat out refuses to load some textures on high and my card has 16GB of VRAM, no where near maxing out the games requirements on High. This is a huge disappointment.”
Other players such as Tankobino noted the difference between the launch version of the game and the Open Beta test which ran “perfectly fine” with an “excellent rating score on the benchmark.” According to Tankobino, the final game “runs like absolute sludge,” suggesting that this is an issue that may at least be patchable for some players.
Regardless, it seems like Capcom has another big hit on its hands.
