If you thought that Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok was going to be a major smash success, then you were right on the money. The PlayStation exclusive was one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2022, and quickly became the fastest-selling first party launch title in Sony’s entire history. Those numbers, which have been trickling out slowly, are now reaching new heights in a very quick manner. According to the studio, God of War Ragnarok has now sold more than 11 million units since it launched less than three months ago, an absolutely insane achievement even for a major AAA title.
We’re incredibly humbled that #GodofWarRagnarok has officially sold through 11 million copies!
None of this would be possible without the support of our fans, so thank you for coming on this journey with us! pic.twitter.com/7KlAT9eddG

To put this into an even more impressive perspective, God of War Ragnarok had sold approximately 5 million units within the first two weeks that it released. That alone is a crazy statistic in an of itself. Somehow the title managed to an on an additional 6 million copies sold from that time frame to now. Considering that most titles usually see the majority of their sales within the first few weeks of being available, that makes this one of the rare instances where the title’s sales only increased exponentially over time. We’ve seen this before over the years, but almost never in such a quick succession.
As we already mentioned, God of War Ragnarok was one of 2022’s greatest titles. It went onto be nominated for numerous Game of the Year awards, including many at The Game Awards 2022. The latter famously featured Christopher Judge winning the Best Performance Award before going on an eight minute long speech that seemed to last an eternity. That award was also presented by Hollywood icon Al Pacino, just because they could do it.
