A new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Gears of War sequel, Gears of War 4 has been released and shows off the new Horde 3.0. Horde has always been a fan favorite game mode for fans of GOW and for the latest installment they are introducing classes. The classes are ones that any gamer should already be familiar with, these include: Sniper, Solider, Scout, Heavy, and Engineer. The introduction of classes will add an element of planning to Horde. Each player will have a more designated role than they have previously had in Horde. This is definitely important considering how chaotic co-op can get in Horde, especially in the later waves. The Engineer class in particular provides an interesting addition to the 5 player co-op classic, the ability to build and maintain turrets. In a mode such as Horde where the escalating levels grow more and more chaotic, a carefully placed turret could be a saving grace. Horde 3.0 will include 50 waves of increasing mayhem. The trailer can be viewed below.
Outside of the game itself, the most notable aspect of the new trailer was the music, provided by the hip hop duo, Run the Jewels, consisting of El-P and Killer Mike, who are both legends in their own right. Run the Jewels features a snippet exclusively on the Horde 3.0 trailer, of “Panther Like a Panther”, from the upcoming and highly anticipated Run the Jewels 3. The new Run the Jewels track features Killer Mike and El-P going in, as always, on a beat made up of 808s and vintage synths with an intensity and industrial sound that is uniquely El-P production. This collaboration was birthed out an appreciation for Run the Jewels, as Studio Head at Coalition Rob Fergusson puts it, “Run the Jewels was on heavy rotation when we started laying the groundwork for the next era of Gears back in 2014, and has been there ever since.” Run the Jewels tongue in cheek violent and intense style is a perfect match up with the aesthetic of the Gears of War franchise. The duo will also be forever immortalized as a part of the Gears of War world later this year when they will appear as multiplayer characters in Gears of War 4. Run the Jewels is also selling merch featuring a Gears of War inspired version of their signature logo. Run the Jewels have been working on a few other projects in anticipation of their new album, such as a collaboration with DJ Shadow and the VR music video for their single, “Crown.”
