In a move that comes as a shock to probably nobody Zaheer, arguably the most iconic villain from The Legend of Korra, has made the cut for the base roster of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game.
In a bit of “gameplay matches the lore” integration, Zaheer unlike the other fighters, doesn’t just use his support characters (in this case, his Red Lotus gang) to change his playstyle, whoever he chooses as a support actively jumps into the fight to act as an assist. This is similar to how The Red Lotus would frequently gang up on whoever they were fighting whenever Zaheer got in trouble.
Other than that, Zaheer’s most notable trait is his ability to actually fly without the need for an air bubble or glider like the other air benders. This gets reflected in his very dynamic air combos in the trailer, as you can see him easily juggle other characters corner to corner for a very long time, as well as presumably the ability to enter a fly state.
Funnily enough, Zaheer’s aerial movement means he’s a mean customer not just in combos but on aggro too. People meme’d for a while that Kyoshi’s height might be a disadvantage, as is usually the case in this hyper aggressive fighting games, and lo and behold we see Zaheer basically hit the 7 foot tall avatar with several air confirms from a height that would miss any of the other characters.
Say what you will about The Legend of Korra, Zaheer was always going to make the roster for an Avatar fighting game. His air movement, Red Lotus assists, and genuine swagger make him an excellent addition to the game, and I’m sure he’ll be the go-to choice for either combo junkies or hyper aggro setplay lab monsters. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is set to release very soon on July 23rd, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC through Steam.
