Devil May Cry, the hack-n-slash video game series, has been popular amongst fans of the genre since 2001. Throughout the series’ life, Devil May Cry has been on multiple generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as on Windows. Now, for the first time, it is expected to enter into the mobile gaming market with Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat.
According to MMO Culture, Yunchang Game, a Chinese mobile game developer, has obtained the IP rights from Capcom to begin work on the next entry into the Devil May Cry series. Although Yunchang Game is not a relatively well-known name outside of China, the company has handled a big-name IP before with Sword Art Online: Black Swordsman. In addition, they have also developed two other action-oriented mobile games: Bùliáng Rén and Bùliáng Rén 2, both of which roughly translate to Bad People.
Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat is planned to focus on Devil May Cry‘s combat system, as well as have a couple online modes consisting of a tag-team battle mode and a real-time PvP mode. The game modes would imply that there will be ways of interacting with other players online, and these additions would mark the first time in the series’ history that multiplayer aspects would be present. Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat would also be the first time since 2008 that a new Devil May Cry game has been released, excluding 2013’s reboot, DmC: Devil May Cry.
The mobile game is currently in development with Unity 3D, and some progress has already been made according to the work-in-progress images. Despite the growing development, Yunchang Game has yet to make an official announcement regarding the title or plans to introduce it to the West. Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat is expected to launch in China sometime during 2018, so we will most likely have a formal announcement come next year.
