YouTube Rewind 2019 Reveals Minecraft is Most Watched Game of 2019

YouTube has revealed the top five most-watched video games on its site this year with the new YouTube Rewind 2019 video. The relevant segment starts around the 2:30 mark in the video below. Topping the list this year is Minecraft, with many, many more views than the other games that made the list.

Coming in fifth place with 29.6 billion views is Roblox, an online game creation platform where players can design their own games to play with others. In fourth is Garena Free Fire, a free-to-play battle royale game available on mobile platforms, just barely beating Roblox with its own 29.9 billion views. In third is Grand Theft Auto V with 36.9 billion views and second is Fortnite, with an impressive 60.9 billion views.

As previously mentioned, Minecraft far surpassed these numbers and more, with its own whopping 100.2 billion views, beating Fortnite by some 40 billion views. Again, these numbers only represent views for the year of 2019, further emphasizing how popular these games have become on YouTube.

Minecraft has had a presence on YouTube for years now, as the franchise has only continued to see success over its 10 years of life, such as by surpassing Tetris for the bestselling game of all time after reaching 176 million sales worldwide, in addition to reaching 112 million monthly players, all in this year. Some big YouTubers may have contributed to its massive success on YouTube this year, such as when longtime popular YouTuber Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg uploaded a Minecraft video back in June that received 34 million views, and has since made more Minecraft videos. Another popular YouTuber, Sean “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin, has also returned to Minecraft, further pushing it past Fortnite in terms of video views.

As a franchise, Minecraft has shown no sign of slowing down any time soon. Their recent mobile title, Minecraft Earth, reached 1.4 million downloads in the first week after its official launch in the U.S. Next April, Minecraft Dungeons will release on console and PC.
