Those that are keeping in touch with Ryu Ga Gatoku Studios know that the annual RGG Summit is set to take place next week on September 23, 2025 (US Pacific Time) or September 24, 2025 in Japan and Europe, and as such we’re expecting some news regarding the future of the Yakuza series, as well as Virtua Fighter. However, something that RGG probably didn’t expect was an early leak for Yakuza Kiwami 3 via the category going up on their website a bit early.

Yeah, while this is still alleged, that’s pretty damning evidence. So, it’s all but confirmed that Yakuza 3 is getting a remake in the form of Yakuza Kiwami 3 (“Kiwami” meaning “Ultimate”). Yakuza fans probably saw this coming, after all Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2 also received Kiwami remakes. However, both of those Kiwami versions had a bit of backlash related to them regarding the gameplay (and an infamous fumbling of the music for a very important cutscene in Yakuza Kiwami 2).
Though it should be noted that it’s been almost a decade since the release of Yakuza Kiwami 2, and no doubt RGG Studios have taken all the criticisms of the first two Kiwamis to heart, with that much time and effort Kiwami 3 will no doubt be a very polished experience. On top of that, Yakuza 3 is often considered the black sheep of the Yakuza series, though in recent times that title has become a bit up for grabs with Yakuza 4 and 6 receiving naysayers and 3 going through a bit of a cultural renaissance with fans claiming Okinawa is actually good. It’s the perfect storm to turn Yakuza 3 into a franchise darling, since it’s the game fans will claim needs a remake the most and there is room for improvement.
But Kiwami 3 isn’t the only thing you’re going to be seeing at the RGG Summit. There may be news about other Yakuza mainline games and spinoffs, maybe news about the Judgement series (though maybe temper your expectations for that), and we might even see Virtua Fighter make an appearance. Check it all out come September 23!
