While Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is slated to release for the rest of the world next month, Sega has also announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2 will indeed be releasing in the west for the PlayStation 4. The Japanese version of the game, titled Ryu ga Gotoku: Kiami 2 was released last year in December.
But now, fans in other parts of the world will have a chance to enjoy the revamped visuals and graphics of the original Yakuza 2. Sega stated within a news release that “extreme localization” for the western version of the game is on the way. “We’ve gone through the Yakuza Kiwami 2 script with a fine-toothed comb; every effort has been made to ensure that it’s the most faithful representation of the original Japanese.”
Yakuza Kiwami 2, is a remaster of the original game with characters and environments fully remade in Dragon Engine, which is the engine that runs Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Not only is this a major visual improvement, but the Dragon Engine also has many other practical advantages as well such as allowing players into buildings without load times even while in the middle of a tough fight.
A new feature that Kiwami 2 will introduce to players is a brand new campaign mode called The Truth of Goro Majima. Within this mode players will get to dive into Majima’s past and experience firsthand some major events right before the start of Yakuza 2, and see how he became the businessman he is. Fans in the western part of the world can look forward to diving into this story August 28.
