Firaxis has announced new DLC for XCOM 2 to celebrate the sixth birthday of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It will require players to own both the base game and XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. Adding new maps, modes, weapons, armor, customization options, soundtrack options, and more, the DLC seems to be a celebration of all things XCOM. Lead Producer Clint McCaul of Firaxis Games commented on what the DLC means to the team.
It’s an honor to work besides so many talented and passionate developers to create something as special as XCOM 2: War of the Chosen – Tactical Legacy Pack, a content-rich DLC that not only celebrates the entire franchise but also says thank you to our fans. The halls of Firaxis were filled with excitement and steeped in nostalgia as we revisited and reimagined all the sights and sounds from the past decade of XCOM.
The most significant addition that will be added looks to be the new gameplay modes. The central new gameplay mode is Legacy Ops, a mode focused entirely around “tactical combat” that fills in the gaps of the story between XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2, with four operations and numerous new and remastered maps. Alongside that there is Skirmish, where players can create their own missions using an included editor that will allow them to adjust settings such as maps, enemies, and objectives, among other things. Finally, there is the Challenge Archives, which allows players to play through any of the challenges in XCOM 2: War of the Chosen at any time.
As well as the new gameplay modes, there are other additions such as the soundtrack selector, which gives players the choice to change the current soundtrack to the soundtrack of XCOM: Enemy Unknown or to a new soundtrack inspired by the first game in the franchise, X-COM: UFO Defense. The new weapons and armor are all new versions of weapons and armor found in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, they can all be unlocked for use in the main game by playing through the new gameplay modes.
XCOM 2: War of the Chosen – Tactical Legacy Pack DLC will launch on October 9, 2018. It will be available for free download for all owners of XCOM 2: War of the Chosen on Steam until December 3, 2018.
