Today the head of Xbox Phil Spencer gave tech fans a little tease of what the next-gen Xbox console could do. According to IGN, the head of Xbox changed his profile picture on Twitter to an image of the hardware chip which has the terms “8K” and “Project Scarlett” carved into it.
The image of the processor was magnified on Twitter by senior editor of The Verge Tom Warren and looks a bit like a larger version of the Xbox One X’s processor. Not much more is known regarding the image or why Phil Spencer changed his profile photo, however, more information will likely be released at a later date.
Microsoft’s Xbox Series X won’t be releasing until Holiday 2020, but information about Xbox Series X’s various features has been streaming out in torrents. Back in late December, an alleged leak claimed to reveal the Xbox Series X’s GPU and memory specs. The leak claims that Xbox Series X will have eight Zen 2 cores with SMT as well as GDDR6 memory.
With the release of Xbox Series X, Microsoft will also be supporting the Play Anywhere Scheme which allows players to enjoy their games with save data and achievements on any Microsoft platform. The new Xbox will also feature backwards compatibility at its release so players will be able to enjoy all of their games from all of the previous generations of Xbox the day that it comes out.
The next-gen console is just the first in new series of Xbox consoles, and new consoles will be added in the future. No new information has been released regarding Xbox Series X, however, it is likely that more information will be revealed at a later date.
