Xbox Games Showcase 2023: First Look at Ubisoft’s “Star Wars: Outlaws”

Today, Ubisoft developer Massive Entertainment finally unveiled their ongoing Star Wars Project – Star Wars: Outlaws. Shown during Xbox Games Showcase, Massive released a world premiere trailer that highlighted the game’s space Western premise and how it fits into the Star Wars Universe. Ubisoft has labelled Star Wars: Outlaws as the first open-world game in the Star Wars franchise, which isn’t far off the mark considering the Star Wars Jedi series’ linear exploration.

Massive Entertainment has expressed enthusiasm about this project. Massive Creative Director Julian Gerighty said:

It’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with the team at Lucasfilm Games to create Star Wars Outlaws, the first open-world Star Wars game. Our team at Massive Entertainment has a great deal of experience in open-world games backed by strong technology, and it’s the perfect time to tell an original scoundrel story that will resonate with fans. With the Galactic Empire on the heels of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld thriving, an outlaw like Kay Vess has a whole galaxy of opportunity in front of her.

Star Wars: Outlaws takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It follows cunning scoundrel Kay Voss, portrayed by Humberly González, on a mission to pull off one of the greatest heists in the Outer Rim. Allied with her companion Nix, portrayed by Dee Bradley Baker, she will embark on high-risk, high-reward adventures to secure the means to start anew. Other key characters in this journey are a mysterious man named Jaylen and a BX-Commando droid wearing a trench coat. Players will explore the criminal underworld and how it thrives during the war between the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance.

Star Wars: Outlaws is set to launch in 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Official gameplay will be revealed during Ubisoft Forward tomorrow.
