Bethesda’s Starfield is currently one of the most highly anticipated Xbox exclusives of 2023. Although the game launches this September, select individuals have had the opportunity to play Starfield early.
Earlier today, Xbox players spotted Xbox Chief Executive Officer Phil Spencer and Bethesda Head of Publishing Pete Hines playing Starfield on the Xbox Live social tab. First noticed by Reddit user u/cyberRakan on the Starfield subreddit, these executives’ profiles were displayed on Starfield‘s Xbox Live page. Since the title’s launch is still seven weeks away, it’s likely that Spencer and Hines are playing an unfinished build for Starfield. It’s currently unknown what content this build contains or how many people have access to it. For now, it seems that Spencer, Hines, and potentially other Xbox and Bethesda executives can play Starfield right now.

Spencer’s early access to Starfield isn’t all that surprising since he expressed how vital the project is to Xbox’s “survival in the market” during his testimony at the FTC vs. Microsoft hearings. On another note, details about Starfield are scarce despite how close the project is to launch. Starfield Design Director Emil Pagliarulo tweeted on this subject below, saying that only Besthesda Director Todd Howard can disclose information about Starfield.
Starfield is space-action RPG title by Bethesda Game Studios. As the developer’s first “new universe” in over twenty-five years, this project holds tremendous weight in Bethesda’s lineup of projects. Players control customizable characters and explore the cosmos with “unparalleled freedom” as they set out on a journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery. Starfield features a choice-driven story, an expansive open-world galaxy boasting more than a thousand planets, the ability to pilot and captain a ship, a robust collecting and crafting system, and a refined combat system.
Starfield will launch on September 6th for Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Windows.
