After first being shown off nearly six years ago, Ebb Software’s Scorn was given a final release date of Oct. 21, 2022 today during a brand-new trailer at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. The freakishly fleshy FPS will be out on Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as Xbox Game Pass as a day one exclusive.
Scorn was first shown off in 2016 with an intriguing, albeit slightly rough-looking teaser trailer. In the years since then, the team behind the game at Ebb have been drip-feeding the internet with new gameplay trailers and alpha build demos to build up hype for the game’s eventual release, which was tentatively announced last December. Over the last few months, the devs have been providing monthly updates on the game through their Steam news page and snippets of gameplay through their Twitter and YouTube platforms.
The first-person survival horror game is an homage to the late H.R. Geiger’s signature art style, blending alien machinery and flesh to create an eldritch hellscape where everything —even the player’s weapon — pulsates and writhes with life. As the unnamed player-character progresses through game’s labyrinthine passageways, they must modify their own body, interface with living terminals to solve puzzles, and fend off squealing, bleeding monstrosities of all shapes and sizes. Players will gain access to an arsenal of vaguely-recognizable weapons to defend themselves with (pistol, shotgun, grenade launcher, etc.), but ammunition will be scarce and reloading will be painfully slow.
Scorn is currently available for pre-order on Steam, the Epic Games store, and the Xbox store. The game’s deluxe edition will include digital copies of its soundtrack and a 192-page artbook.
