WWE 2K22 is set to release on March 11 and fans are expecting big things from the game. After the disappointment of WWE 2K20, fans are hoping that the 2022 release can live up to expectations. With the release coming soon, WWE is going to consider working with Electronic Arts if the game does not work out the way they are hoping.
According to a report by Fightful, the company has considered a partnership with EA in response to the slow growth of their franchise. The report says that “Multiple sources have stated that WWE has had preliminary discussions with EA about bringing the WWE Games line over to one of the top gaming publishers in the world”. The last deal that Take-Two signed with WWE was in 2016 and would carry the franchise for six years. This deal means that 2022 is the last year that WWE is guaranteed to be working with Take-Two before the consideration of moving to their rival developer.
This potential switch will rely heavily on the outcome of WWE 2K22 and it is being seen as a “make or break” game for the franchise. One of Fightful’s sources discussed the reason for a possible change and said “WWE has shown a lot of frustration with the reception and lack of success of recent games. The gaming market is a major selling point for them, and they believe they’ve fallen behind the competition.”
Since the release of the first WWE2K game back in 2010, each game has received pretty mixed reviews from the fans. Reports from back in 2016 say that WWE and EA Sports were already discussing a possible deal prior to the extension signed with Take-Two.
Despite the failure of WWE 2K20 that was filled with bugs, fans are hoping for a fun and exciting game that can give them hope for the future.
