Today on twitter CD Projekt Red, creators of last year’s critical and commercial darling Witcher 3:Wild Hunt unveiled the cover art for the upcoming expansion titled Blood and Wine.
Around the same time as the official reveal, the image popped up on NeoGAF, along with some more information. In the thread user Nineonezero posted a picture of what looks like box art for the game, saying that a local store Jakarta is already taking pre-orders for the game. As you can see, aside from the fact that the expansion will be getting a physical release, the case will only have a download code inside, not an actual disc. It also says that players will be require to have the base game in order to play it.
The fact that Blood and Wine will be getting physical release might be due to what comes with it. Fans of Gwent, a Magic: The Gathering-esque card game created by CD Projekt Red, will be excited to see that the boxed version will come with two physical Gwent decks and that the materials required to play the game outside of The Witcher 3.
The Blood and Wine expansion will take players to the land of Toussaint, a place “untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.” The DLC boast a huge new area, with both expansions (Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone) together equaling the size of the Witcher 2‘s open world says Gamespot. With over twenty hours of content and all questing, monster hunting, flower picking that comes with it. We’ve written before about the expansion here, which has some additional screenshots from the new area.
The DLC is slated to release sometime in the first quarter of this year, sometime between January and June, for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
