Wild Guns Reloaded E3 Demo

Wild Guns: Reloaded is a revival of a 22-year-old Super Nintendo Entertainment System title developed by Natsume. This is also the very first sequel the Wild Guns series has ever received since being released in 1994. The game is a quick gallery style shooting game based around steam punk aesthetics. Up to four players can play the game at once, I played with two other people when I demoed the game at the Natsume booth at E3.

The play style of the game is interesting. The players are able to side step, dodge, roll, and even melee attack if the enemy is close enough. Like a typical gallery shooter, the enemies are scrolling across the screen with increasing frequency culminating in both mini boss and actual boss fights. The game feels like it would be a fun party game, one of those more casual titles that are best enjoyed when played in a group and not so much when they are a solely single player experience.

The controls for the game work using a combination of the analog sticks, using one for movement and the other for aiming, as well the as using the standard square to shoot, x to jump controls. The use of the two analog sticks is a bit odd in a gallery shooter and takes a little getting used to, but once the player adjusts to it, it provides a quick paced experience requiting constant movement.

Wild Guns Reloaded does not stray too far from the feeling of the original Wild Guns game. The game maintains the 16-bit aesthetics, although the colors in the game are brighter and more vibrant, of the original game, which adds to the overall experience of the game. The game feels nostalgic, whether or not you are even familiar with the original. The nostalgia comes from the feeling of the game being a game that exists to be fun.

The game will be released for the PlayStation 4.
