Despite many rock speed bumps earlier–what with Bungie’s previous CEO leaving and having to break in new one, plus complaints from active players on a lack of met goals for DLCs–the devs and publishers behind space/fantasy MMO Destiny appear to be back on track. Having already announced their plans for a sequel, last month they announced their intentions to quickly get back on track with new updates for this year.
It appears Bungie and Activision have made good on their word!
Currently being called “hotfix,” (or update 2.1.1.3) the newest patch for Destiny launched as of yesterday, on March 8th.
According to an update announced on Bungie’s blog, the upgrades we can look forward to include:
- Updated all of the matchmade Crucible playlists to make use of the higher priority on latency settings
- Enabled Damage Referee for all Crucible playlists
The update will also see changes in Crucible–most excitedly that matchmaking algorithms will continue on to prioritize connection quality, plus Damage Referee to all PvP playlists. Bungie also added, in the very same blog, that they are attempting–“top priority” as they put it–to implement new settings for player introductions to their teammates/opponents.
When asked for a statement concerning the patch, senior designer Derek Carroll said:
“If you’ve played Control or Iron Banner in the past week or so, you’ve sampled the newest search criteria. Our goal for matchmaking continues to be fostering a competitive ecosystem that works for everyone. First and foremost, that means we attempt to find matches with the lowest latency possible.
Many have interpreted this to mean that lagging issues will be addressed accordingly!
We can further expect another major update for Destiny this coming Spring, which developers have promised to bring new items to the table along with a Light increase, and additional PvE events.
