During the roaring 20s, a port city is destroyed by a supernatural flood. Arkham, New England was once full of life: speakeasies filled with city residents, bustling districts covered with Art Deco, and cobblestone streets.Things have turned into a water-worn nightmare after the flood, however. The once beautiful and prospering Arkham is damaged beyond repair. Attempting to navigate the ruins is a death sentance, but Calvin Rafferty is determined to find the woman he loves after a ritual gone wrong left her sould trapped in the Dreamlands.
Though flooded streets pose a danger on their own, they are not the only thing Calvin needs to work his way through for his love Faye Bennett. The occupants of Arkham aren’t the people that were here before the flood, they have been replaced by lovecraftian monsters like the “Deep Ones”–creatures who surge from dark water and attack anyone who they come into contact with. Killing them is the only option, but these foes will not stay dead for long with the “Slither” who reanimates the dead present. Defying an eldritch deity who now controls the town and its hench-creatures is the only way to move forward.
Exploring the sunken town is the key to survival here. Between the lifethreatening obstacles, there are puzzles that must be solved in order to piece together the mystery behind the disappearance of Faye’s body. Grisly clues like journals that need to be decoded, ritual residues that need to be read, and more are some of the things Calvin comes across on his journey. This is where the mechanics and detective roots seen in The Sinking City (2019) come into play for those who are familiar with the first game.
The Sinking City 2 is available to wishlist on Steam now.
