Watch Dogs to Run at 30 FPS

Ubisoft’s new open world game, Watch Dogs, will run at a native 30 frames per second on the Xbox One and PS4.

How will this affect game play? Well, for one the game will appear to be more dynamic and fluid. The 30 FPS will alter the overall smoothness of character movements and change the perception of gameplay from being a simulation to more realistic.

Jonathan Morin, the game’s creative director stated that, “I think for where we are the most important thing is steadiness and that it’s always capped the same so when you play it it feels right.” He went on to state, “There’s always a balance, especially for open-world, between the simulation and the rest.”

With a higher frame rate the movements are more readily captured. While most games operate on the cinematic formula of 24 frames per second, the heightened capture rate will more closely resemble how the human eye actually perceives motion. At least that’s the theory.

Watch Dogs will launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on November 19th. As for the Xbox One and PS4, the game will be released as a launch title for those consoles.
