Wasteland 2 Coming To PC In August

Wasteland was first released back in 1988, it was directed by Brian Fargo who formed the indie game development company, inXile Entertainment. It is now 26 years later, and finally inXile Entertainment announced that the sequel to its post-apocalyptic role-playing game, Wasteland 2, will be released in August on PC, Linux, and Mac.

InXile had created a Kickstarter in 2012 for $900,000 in order to fund the development of the next game in the sequel to the classic RPG Wasteland. The Kickstarter campaign was successful and raised more than $2.9 million with over 60,000 backers, which the original release of Wasteland 2 was to be on October 2013, but then was pushed back to be able to ‘increase the scope of the game.’

Early backers to the game on Kickstarter received access to the beta version through Steam Early Access late last year. Since then, it has been in early access, and inXile has been releasing updates to the version of the game. A recent release update included the release of the full Arizona part of the game.

“The scope of the game is immense with a word count that is greater than The Lord of the Rings novels and a solid 50+ hour game experience that has diversity from beginning to end,” Brian Fargo said. “My goal has been to over deliver on our backer’s expectations for Wasteland 2.”

According to the launch announcement, Wasteland 2 will be giving the options to give players the chance to have a direct impact on their world, from ‘player creation to credits, with decisions that offer consequences and actually impact the world within the game.’ Also save an ally from certain death or let them perish, the choice is yours.

“But we are not yet in full lock-down, it is important for us to stay flexible for iterations as we keep learning from the backer beta.”
