There have been rumors about Warner Bros’ Smash Bros-like brawler game. Today, Player First Games finally made an official announcement for MultiVersus, a brawler that allows players to play as beloved characters from all kinds of genres. The trailer reveals Bugs Bunny, Batman, Finn from Adventure Time, Tom & Jerry, and so on, with more characters set to be unveiled throughout the day. The gameplay seems very similar to Super Smash Bros, but there will allegedly be a wide range of characters from many different universes. “About two years ago, we had a question: Can we create a platform fighter that embodies everything we love about the genre, removes the pain points, and brings in some new ideas,” says Tony Huynh, co-founder of Player First Games and director of MultiVersus.
“MultiVersus emphasizes teamwork and social play with an ever-expanding diverse cast of characters that you know and love. This is our take on the competitive platform fighter.” Tony states that everything is better with friends, and emphasizes that teamwork is crucial to winning a game of Multiversus especially in 2v2. Each character has unique moves that focus on team play, be it Batman throwing a smoke bomb to cover his teammate’s movement, Steven shielding his ally with a shield, or Bugs Bunny teleporting his teammate through his tunnels. The roster revealed so far includes Arya Stark, Batman, Bugs Bunny, Finn The Human, Garnet, Harley Quinn, Jake The Dog, Reindog, Shaggy, Steven Universe, Superman, Tom & Jerry, and Wonder Woman.
MultiVersus also features guild matches and a leaderboard, encouraging players to aim for the best in wider social settings. According to Tony, the company’s vision for Multiversus is that anyone and anything is possible. They will regularly update the community with new characters, modes, skins, and events throughout the year.
