Warner Bros. Games Hires Santa Monica Studios Producer David Hewitt as New Studio Head for Monolith

Monolith Productions has a brand new boss. The studio’s parent company, Warner Bros. Games, has officially announced that they have hired David Hewitt as the new Studio Head and Vice President. Hewitt’s main job will be to oversee the entire studio and its production process as they continue to develop new titles, as well as keep a constant healthy work environment. Hewitt’s previous venture in the video game industry was as the Director of Product Development at Santa Monica Studios, who is most well known for creating the God of War franchise.

Hewitt also has a 20 plus year history within the video games industry, having held lead designer positions at both Tantalus Interactive and Ratbag Games. Hewitt stated in the press release that he has been a long-time fan of Monolith and all their work, as well as looks forward to getting started and joining his new team. “I’m truly inspired and looking forward to working with this team to focus and build upon on a new vision to make excellent games with the support of Warner Bros.”

Monolith Productions library of work goes all the way back to 1997 where they made a name for themselves in the early stages of the PC gaming community. However, they’re more than likely more well known for their two most successful franchises which came later in the studio’s lifetime. The first is F.E.A.R. which stands for First Encounter Assault Recon, and is a first-person shooter series that combines the horror and suspense genre. The second is the Middle-earth series which consists of two titles, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. The first entry has gone on to become one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2014, while the second had varying degrees of success.

It’ll be interesting to see what Hewitt has in store for Monolith Productions, especially since we haven’t really heard anything from the studio in a while. Hopefully, they’ll have something to show us very soon.
