Developed by Caged element, the multiplayer vehicle combat game Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks has received a new publisher Wired Productions. Gematsu reports that Both groups announced the title will be leaving Steam’s Early Access program and release for PC as version 1.0 on May 22. It also will no longer be offered as a free-to-play title, though players who played during early access will be receiving it for free. The game was originally published by PLAION during its Early Access run.
Shared by Gematsu Caged Element game director Chris Mallinson said in a press release “We set out to make the Orkiest of Warhammer 40,000 games, and through our Early Access period we’ve had thousands of people help us achieve that goal—along with our previous publisher PLAION. Now with Wired Productions picking up the torch, we’re launching out of Early Access and into version 1.0 with a different approach that we think players will really appreciate and enjoy. We thank both partners for their dedication to the game, along with Games Workshop. We’re of course very happy to be back with our pals at Wired Productions, since we worked with them before on GRIP. Now enuff o’ dat, on to da WAAAGH!!!”
Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks features 7 classes of unique vehicles and 16 player matches which consist of combat racing, vehicular shooting, and capturing points. The 1.0 update launch includes new maps, a new vehicle in the Trukk, and 170 cosmetic items.
It’s possible Caged element has aimed to bring Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks into a more complete and community focused light with their version 1.0 release. By transitioning to a paid model, they have removed microtransactions establishing player trust. Well know if this good intent will pay off at release in just a few short days.
